If you can make your way to an Apple Store they can boot up your system using their copy of OS's (hopefully they still have a copy of Snow Leopard kicking around). You might want to give them a call first. Having a sad face and a tear or two when you arrive should get you straightened out. You maybe asked to buy a copy of Mountain Lion online while your there.

Do download it and before you do anything make a copy of the file image onto a thumb drive. After you have installed MT on your system properly, on a second thumb drive or external FireWire or USB HD install it again so you have a backup bootable disk. So your not caught with your knickers down again.

You'll have to buy a disk.. you can get a replacement from Apple.

But if i had it before, cant i just download it back straight from apple website by my user id?

I think you'll have to do the "app store" update first for that to work. Apple can tell you.

Catch-22 here the updater only updates the same version of OS you have on the system and can't replace it. Lion was the first downloadable OS from Apples App Store site which you can buy and download (now Mountain Lion).
