Touch screen chip replacement on logic board

Can the touch screen ic chip on the phone be replaced by one's self and what is the method? What is the repercussion if you mess up?

VitaminH, I do not think that it is possible for the normal DIY'er to replace the IC. You better have the right tools to solder an IC to a logic board, a good magnifier and a very steady hand to even try to attempt this. You better be a pro at soldering....the repercussions would be a logic board that turned into a pretty paper weight.
