Ribbon connecting keyboard to the logic board

I recently replaced my macbook A1181 with a new keyboard. I noticed that the keyboard came with a "silver" cable and my old keyboard has a "brown" "copper" colored cable.

After installing my new keyboard it worked for a second and stopped registering.

Now my question is, Can I replace the silver cable for the copper cable? Or is the silver cable specific for this keyboard.

I made sure to order the correct keyboard for my computer entering the type of computer I had and everything.

I have a macbook 13" late 2007 edition with a penrose keyboard A1181.

Unfortunately the A1181 family number doesn't narrow down the ranges, as it covers the macbooks from 2006-2008.

it says you have the Late 2007 macbook with, what i am assuming you are referring to the Penryn model keyboard (which is a 2008 model), then there is something wrong here.

The orange top case flex cable was only ever used in the early 06 models. this range was replaced with the silver top cases in the Late 06 model. (the silver cable was a replacement version, so is backwardly compatible with the early 06 model)

The top cases are completely different between the silver and orange ranges, so you cannot swap individual components between them, but the sockets are the same on the logic board, so complete top cases can be swapped over. The only problem is with the Late 07 to early 09 ranges (including the 08 model), as they changed the keyboard layout, which is why they are so much easier to identify. They use one keyboard type for the later ranges, but they shouldn't really be used on the early models, which is what you will have if your machine had an orange cable originally.

if you can confirm the range, it will help a lot... also, had you removed the magsafe cable and battery while you were working on it?
