Why won't my Super Drive play a DVD but will CD"s?

My Super Drive is quite testy, picks and chooses which cd's to read and refuses to play any DVD's. It's a great computer otherwise , very easily upgraded it's RAM to a total of 6 gigs.

I was all set to replace it and even bought another but there is this one stinking screw that won't budge and now I'm stuck!

Help Me please :/

Wetware always wins over hardware. There are several means of removing/working around that troublesome screw. Check out the tags at right. However, adjusting/repairing optical disk drives is not really a DIY project. . . replacing them is. Essentially the answer to your question is this: CD's are more tolerant of alignment errors than DVDs The read spot is much smaller on a DVD.
