iPhone 4, Ringer not working after battery replacement, advice needed?

I recently successfully followed the fixit battery replacement guide as my old battery was only lasting 1/2 day.

It was not as successful as I'd hopes as later on I noticed that when people call the phone vibrates, but does not ring...Oops!

Now I can't find a way to get the ringer to sound for incoming calls or texts, the phone still works and I can answer the call and hear/talk ok.. Just can't change the ringer volume so I've no doubt done something wrong when replacing the battery

I've checked the software settings, sound settings and everything is fine and set as max, but I noticed that the mute button and volume button have no effect and the visual indicators don't appear when using them.

The phones speaker is fine as it plays music and I can adjust the volume by using the sliders that appear in the app, even to a Bluetooth speaker

I'm not sure if its a mute button problem as I while it moves position the visual confirmations don't appear so it could be stuck in mute?

I'm trying to work out what to do next, any help greatly appreciated

I would start by unplugging and the replugging the 3 connectors at the top of the phone next to the Digitizer and LCD connectors and under the WiFi antenna. These 3 plugs run the power button, mute switch, vol buttons, and front facing camera.

They shouldn't have been messed with during the battery replacement. But I would reseat those connections and see if the mute switch starts working.

If not, clean your dock connector. Alcohol and an old toothbrush work great for this. It could be a shorted connection there making it think its plugged into a dock and affecting the sound.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for helping. had a quick look, but im not experienced enough to really do what you suggested, but it reaffirmed my thought that i must have done something elsewhere.

i took it to a shop I've used before... Turns out I fractured cable that feeds headphones, mute and volume which they swapped over for me.

Still no idea how I broke it, just a klutz I suppose.

Thanks again for your help
