No charge when plugged in, tried new battery and magsafe already.

I've done some searching and haven't found the specific answer I'm looking for.

I've already replaced the magsafe adapter and got a new battery.

The computer starts up fine when plugged in with or without the battery. Either way, the LED on the power cord never lights up.

So my question is this:

Is it more common for this to be a problem with the logic board, or the battery connector? I see the battery connector has a small circuit board on it which could have fried.

This is the closest answer I could find from searching: Battery will not charge, but works on AC

There are issues externally and internally that could cause your problem.

Static electricity, zapping the Mag-Safe connector some how or water or drink spilled in the area of the Mag-Safe connector or keyboard getting things wet inside causing a short. These are the most common causes I've seen.

As to how to fix the damage that depends on what model you have and what happened.

In your case a MacBook, the logic that controls & charges the battery is located on the main logic board. In some MacBook Pro's and Air models the logic is split across the Left I/O board or Mag-Safe board. So some where along the path between the Mag-Safe and the battery something has been damaged.

At this point you'll need to give us some more details on what may have happened to your system to cause your problem and we need to better identify what model you have.

Please give us the last three digits of your serial number so we can look it up and give us some background info on what happened to your system.

This is a customer's laptop so I don't know if there was any water damage. There's no obvious signs though.

The battery status shows that a battery is installed, it just doesn't charge. Even with a new battery and Mag-Safe board.

I assume you did try a known working power adapter already, if not double check with it. Have you installed any battery monitoring software to see what it's telling you like Coconut you can also get some information via Apples Profiler application or if you have Lion or Mountain Lion installed you can access the more detailed info services via About This Mac Tell us what Coconut or what the profiler services under the battery section tells you.

Thanks for the reply. I currently have the motherboard removed from the system. I'll put it back in to check this later today.

You're correct, I did test it with a known working adapter. We also tested two different brand new batteries.

One more thing to note: When I plugged in the A/C Adapter while it was off, the LED turned green. It stayed green while the laptop was booting up.
