Why does the top screen of my DS Bleed(Run)?

Whenever I move the top screen while playing, the image on the top screen runs, But i can manage to play if the screen is set at its normal open position. any movement on the unit causes the colors to begin running. I would like to know the cause of this; and if possible if the problem is fixable. I'd like to make my DS in as good condition as possible so I can give it to a family member.

Sounds like a bad cable. any chance you can post an image of the "running colors"?

Righto, so I went and took some pictures of it. Apologies for the darkness but it was the only way to make the screen not look blue.

DS 2

DS 3

DS 4

Hope this helps!

Edit: The screen is bent only slightly, if at all.

Use this guide Nintendo DS Lite Upper LCD Replacement and check to make sure the ribbon cable is properly seated. It does look like a bad LCD, but is definitely interesting. If the cable is properly seated and you have no damage to the connector, I'd replace the LCD.
