lines across screen and apple lying?

I called apple store in providence because i dont want a new phone because im jailbroken and the new firmware doesnt support the jailbreak and they kept telling me that there not actually reaplacing screens just swapping the phone out, i argued with him for like 10 minutes because i asked some guy from this store like yesterday and they said they do. I even called a store a little further and they said they do and its a new service. i just need to be able to keep my older firmware. Also even if theres lines across my screen and the touchscreen is acting up will a new screen fix it/

edit: called another apple store a little furthur and they said they just replace the screen no data is touched so idk

Ryan - Apple just started the screen replacement program at selected stores last week. So its no surprise you are getting different answers here for the different stores (and even different people within a given store as its just so new).

So what you need to do is ask if they have the new screen replacement equipment in-house. If no, you will only get a refurbished phone, otherwise they will attempt to replace the screen with the new tool.

As to your issue of not wanting to loose your older firmware:

If you get the display screen replaced they will not touch your data or the OS (they will still need to test the phone). But, here's the deal if they attempt to replace your display screen and cause damage, they will replace the phone with a refurbished phone which sorry to say will have the latest firmware.

this answers almost everything thank you, im also wondering whether or not there being lines across the screen and the touch screen being messed up will mean that just a new display will not fix it.

What happened to the phone did you drop it or get it wet?

i guess it would go under the drop category i was playing basketball with it in my pocket and i slipped and fell on it.

So you damaged the digitizer as well as the display which are fused together in the iPhone 5 so you should be OK here.
