I'm taking apart my old mid 07 macbook and was hoping to use the optical drive externally for my macbook air. I tried getting an enclosure ( http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20W... ) however the ports on the enclosure and the optical drive are different. I was wondering if there is either an adapter or another enclosure that would be able to connect to the optical drive?

Mike Tucker, "Be sure to determine which model Macbook you have when installing new parts because earlier models have a PATA/IDE connection to the motherboard rather than SATA." I just checked the manual and cross-referenced the drives and it looks like yours is a PATA connection. There is not enough information on the link you posted but it looks like its for 2010 and up, so most likely SATA. Hope this helps, good luck.

A self-powered USB hub may be the answer to your port problem. You'd lose portability but I wouldn't think most people would require an optical drive on the road (or foot as the case may be). External power is advised because the single port can't power something like an optical drive, and/or you may need to use a printer or some other USB device as the same time as your optical drive.

Sorry, I think I should've been clearer. The port in the external enclosure and the port on the optical drive don't match.
