Locks Up While Syncing Audio Tracks

I have an iPod that freezes while syncing.

It is an 80 gb Classic, 5th Gen and it will sync about 50 gigs of music and then freezes on sync and requires reformatting. I have lost my music an reformatted 3 times with the same error.

It typically locks up, I unplug and restart, get a windows error message requesting I "check disc" and try to load music, it locks up and requires reformatting.

Is this a hard drive issue? What repair recommendations would you make to get back in 100% working order?

Try this: Chkdsk (Chkdsk.exe) is a command-line tool that checks volumes for problems. The tool then tries to repair any that it finds. For example, Chkdsk can repair problems related to bad sectors, lost clusters, cross-linked files, and directory errors. To use Chkdsk, you must log on as an administrator or as a member of the Administrators group.

You can also run Chkdsk from My Computer or from Windows Explorer.
