Awake from sleep, bluetooth disappear, cd not reading, any link?

Hi there,

I have a MacBook CD 1,83 with some strange symptoms.

1/Bluetooth is, most of the time, not showing in the pref pan. It appears "when it wants" and disappears.

2/When bluetooth does not show, the MacBook do not want to go sleeping (when closing the Screen). Well it goes but awake after few minutes (the optical drive is working like when starting). And same if I leave it and wait it goes sleeping. If bluetooth appear, no problem.

3/ optical drive is not reading anymore. I can insert cd, take it out, no problem. It "tries" to work but nothing comes on the screen and the MacBook eject the cd. When I check on pref pan, it appears an it makes noise when I click on its icone. Model is MATSHITA CD-RW CW-8221. Also appears in disk utility.

I have asked for repair (an apple retailer) and they said the problem was the logic board and the bluetooth. They both need to be replaced. But it's strange I do not have any other problem if this a logic board failure and what is the link with bluetooth???

So could it be the bluetooth that causes all this mess??? Is there any problem if I take it out?? (I do not need it). It worth a try, I guess.

Has someone any clue? If there is no more bluetooth board is there any problem??

Thank you

(Sorry if english is bad, I am french)

Well, I took out the bluetooth and it solved the sleep problem. This is good.

Regarding the optical driver, I opened end cleaned it, no change. I think it is dead. Not so big deal, I do not use it so much and when needed I can use the driver for the iMac or start on firewire drive for upgrade. Maybe I will change it one of this day.

Thank you Lemerise.

If you don't want to replace the optical drive you can go with an external. If it's firewire you will be able to boot from it. USB no boot. You can also connect to another Mac via a firewire cable and start the book in target mode by holding down the "T" key. Then you can install from the drive in the other Mac.

The MacBook will work without the bluethoot board connected. Since you have to lift up the optical drive to reach the bluethoot board you should take it off the MacBook and clean the laser lens. This could solve your problem.
