Mounting "Unibody Laptop Dual Drive" from iFixit?

Hi there

Is it possible to use this iFixit product for SATA drives with my Mac Mini 2,1 (A1176):

Unibody Laptop Dual Drive ?

- I did see the equivalent PATA version also, which is listed to work.

Best,

Peter

You need the PATA version as your optical drive you currently have is a PATA unit in this model of Mac Mini (A1176). Make sure you have the correct model as the newer models do have a SATA optical drive.

With the PATA dual drive unit there is a PATA to SATA interface conversion logic that converts the SATA drive you install into it to interconnect to the PATA I/O the optical drive once did.

Thanks, that makes sense! So even if the adapter speaks PATA to the controller, the physical connector inside the adapter is SATA?

Correct! The housing has a PATA to SATA converter (you can see it in the picture)
