Phone was dropped in water. Replaced Battery. Major battery drain.

The phone was dropped in water. It was dried out, and eventually turned on. The problem now is that the battery only holds a charge for about 18 with no use in airplane mode.

I bought a new battery, and put it in. The problem persists.

What can be done to fix this? Do I have to take apart the phone and ensure the logic board is clean?

Any help would be appreciated - thank you.

Sean, you are absolutely right in your assumption. anytime any device gets exposed to water (or other liquids), it will have to be cleaned. The problem by not cleaning it is corrosion and short circuiting components. The very first thing you want to do is to totally disassemble your phone. For that I would use this guide. Once you have it disassembled, you do want to clean the logic board. For that part of the job, follow this guide. Depending on the amount of corrosion, you may have to do it a few times. Take your time and be diligent about cleaning it. Check the board for any missing or damaged components. Do not forget to clean the dock connector. Once you have it cleaned, replace the battery and then re-evaluate for any damage and repair those one at a time. Hope this helps, good luck.

Thank you for the advice. Do I completely submerge the board in alcohol? Or should I do that as a last resort?

I would submerge it and use a soft brush to clean it as much as possible. It is okay to submerge it in isopropyl alcohol ;-)
