SL failed my battery status!

I bought a used Macbook 2.1 GHz with Leopard (10.5). Battery condition was good, according to the About My Mac Information button. I couldn't complain about battery endurance when I was using it. Wanting to get a more current OS, I formatted the drive and did a clean install of Snow Leopard. Battery performance is still unchanged, but now I get a Replace Battery when I look up battery condition. Why the change? Is 10.6 more demanding on battery life?

Coconut battery says my battery has 138 cycles, design capacity of 5020 maH, and current capacity of 2988 maH. That's 60% capacity compared to new. That's not too bad, yet SL says to Service the Battery!

I'd pull the battery and inspect for corrosion on the contact and see if it is swelling

Nope, no corrosion on the contacts.

I did an SMC reset (removed battery), pressed power button 7 seconds, waited 5 minutes, then reinstalled battery). After powering up, coconutbattery now says battery capacity is 4434 maH, and is 88% of the original 5020 maH design capacity. On checking battery condition, the Service Battery notice is gone, and is now back to a Normal Condition tag !!
