Will iphone work without a dock connector and if the dock connector terminal is damaged slightly?

seems that the battery is dead and you need a new dock for it to charge.
put it like this you can take the battery out and it will still power up if its plugged in at the dock but the dock must be working

It will still work yes but you'll have no way of charging you phone plus the microphone is part of the dock aswel.
okay, but the problem i have is that the phone is not turning on but i can feel the phone getting hot near the dock terminal when the phone is on charge.
