Dead phone, tried replacing power button to no avail

Hello, I brought a iPhone 4S on eBay it was labelled faulty because the owner tried to do a screen replacement but lost the screws! I brought it for £130 with the intention of fixing it. When I received the phone I stripped it apart and realised the power flex cable had been split, I ordered a new one and installed it to no avail. I thought it could have been a faulty cable so ordered another one from a different supplier and tried that, again didn't work! I've also tried taking the battery out and connecting to charge but again it's just dead! Any help please guys, can't find much in my search, kind regards Matthew

Did you already replace all the screws?

Maybe try different battery. It could be the dock connector.

I replaced all the important screws, the cover clip on the top I didn't bother with but the screws which attach the board to the phone I screwed! I also didn't screw the battery down because I'm waiting for the small clip from eBay which attaches behind the battery, I press the battery connector down to make sure it's properly connected. I can smell a slight electrical smell I'm worried it could be a battery connector issue, although it doesn't seem damaged, kind regards Matthew

I would replace the battery if that doesn't help replace the dock connector..
