How to back up data from hard drive w/ problem?

I dropped my G4 twice! Took it to the local Apple support company in HKG, found my hard disk was gone for a six.

Since I had not done back up of data- of photos and some emails,

they sent it to their company to back up my data. Their machine could not read and now am wondering if anybody knows of a company that can help me please !!! ???

These people are very good but expensive. Can you tell me just what your local people did to recover it and maybe we can help with other alternatives.
