Is my screen invertor broken?

The backlight for my screen isn't working properly.

When I power up, the light screen starts flickering, this then gets faster and faster until the backlight dies a few seconds later, sometimes in 1 second, sometimes 10.

The actual panel is still working and I can see the information on it under strong external light.

Is this a sign of a broken invertor? Or something else?

Any help is much appriciated

The inverter itself is hardly ever the problem in these situations, and it's far more often the inverter cable or the screen. Typically with MacBook Pros, I'd say it's most often been the screen in my experience, although you might want to start with the inverter cable, since of course it's a much cheaper part.

First though, before you start buying components, connect your computer to an external display. If you get an image, and the computer works normally, then you've successfully ruled out the possibility that there is an issue with the board, and you know at that point that it's the inverter cable, the screen or (although very very unlikely) the inverter itself.

I would check ebay for an auction where i can buy the inverter board and the cable in the same auction. You can find it pretty cheap and then troubleshoot the problem faster.
