Replaced battery and screen, now no backlight and endless reboot?

So I had an awfully cracked screen and my battery would die after about 20-30 minutes of regular use after a full charge. I dismissed the battery as it just being old because it's from the first year or so the 4g was released. I decided I should repair both at the same time. I ordered a new LCD/Digitizer replacement screen and Battery from Amazon. I've done screen replacement before so I know what I'm doing there. I've never done battery replacement though, so I spent some time doing my homework and watching and reading tutorials. I replaced everything without too much trouble, got the ipod to boot and go to my lock screen, then I realized my touch screen wasn't functioning, and the ipod would turn off immediatly after being unplugged. I figured later my touchscreen was not working because part of my LCD/Digitizer was not connected completely. I connected this and then grounded my battery thinking that could be the reason that it wouldn't work without the charger. Now the bottom half of my touchscreen works, BUT, I have no backlight. I can see a faint apple logo and at one point I saw my lockscreen (only bottom half of touch screen worked, got into my ipod, switched app pages then it rebooted randomly) It's now stuck in a boot logo repeat where it will start to load then reboot and repeat, still no backlight, and still will not turn on without the charger. I can get it into recovery mode as long as it's on the charger but other than that nothing. Home and power buttons still work. Not sure about volume buttons. Itunes does not reconize the device. When I get home I'll be putting it into DFU and letting it charge for about an hour while in DFU (saw this suggestion online) and then will attempt to turn back on. But, do I need ANOTHER LCD/Digitizer because this one is shot or am I able to repair the backlight problem without buying another? Also, any suggestions on how to get my ipod to actually boot and not need the charger to even attempt to boot? Thanks in advanced to any help.

Have you tried the volume method? I have had the issue with the endless boot issue and was able to resolve the issue by following these steps. NOTE: my idevice was NOT jailbroken when doing this.

REBOOT LOOP

RECOVERY LOOP

Let me know thanks!
