Frank, if nothing else, at least try a hard reset first. Press and hold the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button at the same time. Continue to hold both buttons until the iPhone shuts off and begins to restart. This can take from 15-60 seconds. Once the Apple logo appears you may let go of the buttons.
