Dead battery or Broken dock connector?

Hello, my ipod touch 4th gen recently stopped charging and went dead. It was bought in September 2011 if that helps.

The first thing i thought was that the dock connector was dirty, it was and i cleaned a load of dust and stuff out. It still wouldn't charge.

Then i bought a new usb charger to see if that was the problem, the charger works on other iDevices except my ipod.

Now i'm wondering if it is my battery that is dead and won't charge, or is it the dock connector pins that have bent or corroded?

as i said before did you try to replace the dock connector?

Options

If you cleaned the dock connector and a bunch of dust and other nasty things came out then it sounds like thats your culprit.
