i was replacing a digitizer on my ipod and i connected it to the charger and some component near the home button on the motherboard lit up red. i want to know if my mother board still works or will replacing the battery fix it.

If it is giving off smoke or it is extremely hot, EMPTY A FIRE EXTINGUISHER ON THAT THING! and get a replacement iPod. If it is just red and not smoking or extremely hot, it is a light.
