MacBook Pro keyboard messed up, what to do?

Hello

I have a MacBook Pro 13" 2009

About 2-3 weeks ago I spilled water on my desk and didn't realized it went in my laptop and it was swimming in the water. ( I know I'm an idiot) anyway I knew to turn it off and not touch it for as long as possible about a week later I turned it on and couldn't log in the keyboard seems to be stuck on some weird numerals and icons. It's been 3 weeks and still the same problem.

Now I'm thinking about getting an external keyboard but my question is do I need to set anything up because I can't even log into my account since the keys don't work.

Do I have to get just the keyboard replaced or more?

And like I stated before is there a set up requires to use external keyboards?

Thanks for your time.

You should be able to plug in a USB keyboard to at least get into your system. See if someone can lend you one. Make a backup of anything that is important to start with.

At this point you'll likely need to open your system to at least figure out what needs to be cleaned still or replaced. Review this guide Upper Case Replacement in step 13 you can see the ribbon cable from your keyboard. How does it look? Do you see any moisture or corrosion around it?

If you can post some pictures of any areas that look bad.

Lets see what you find before going any further.
