17" A1297 Stopped booting up

It is Macbook Pro 17" A1297. SN: W89510R08YB. One day it just stopped booting up. Press power button once and the fron LED lids up for a second and goes away, press one more time - same thing, press the third time LED stays on for ever and fans are spinning. I took it to local Apple Service centre they quoted me for $1600 of the price of new logic board and $450 for labour. Obviously I refused. Checked for the solutions found same reports but no solutions were provided. Could you please advise what I can do to get it fixed within a budget of $400 max.

You have a few options here:

Fixing it your self - Do you have the skills, and the needed tools and equipment (think about the cost in your budget). Are you up to this? Review the iFixIt guide.

Finding a good logic board for cheap? I don't think you can find a solution here for $400

Finding a junker system which has a working logic board but has some other damage (i.e. LCD display cracked), then use it for the needed parts. I think you'll have better luck this way but it has it's risks. I think you can find a system around $400

Lastly, finding a good working system to migrate over to as your new system. Selling your old system for parts to help cover the costs. In this option you're not doing major surgery. You'll want to pull your HD out and using a SATA to USB cable migrate your stuff over to the new system, then scrub it down (so your stuff is fully removed) and re-install it. This will cost more aprox. $800. - Good Luck!

The cheapest you could do it for is $700. Logic board failure is expensive.
