The battery not charging.
I recently bought a used Macbook A1181 also with the issue of the battery not charging. I found this site today and will be taking the steps of replacing the magsafe port and the battery connector. From what I have tested thus far by purchasing a new battery I know it isn't the battery. I believe it to be the magsafe connector on the computer because the computer turns on when I put a fully charged battery in. When I plug the AC adapter to the magsafe port it does nothing. It doesn't light up green or orange. The computer does get power from it but it does not charge the battery. In return it does not read the battery after it is fully dead.
Will chime in once I have tried these steps.
Is this a good question?

Skyler - You should post your own question as this question was also posted from someone else's so you don't have the full picture. In this case the battery swelled up distorting the case. From what you have given here I don't think you have that problem, besides you have a Macbook not a MB Pro. As we don't have enough info here it's hard to tell if your charger, Mag-safe connector or your logic board have gone bad.
