How do you remove the angled screws inside the computer?

MacBook Pro 17 2008

Hi,

My mac recently fried and I need to access my hard drive (I have a USB to SATA to transfer my data.) I was able to remove all the screws but I'm having a hard time of removing those angled three small bolts inside -- located where the the battery is removed. (I've tried for up to 20 minutes, still no luck.) Has anyone done this before and can you please give me pointers? I'd appreciate it a lot!

Step #4 of this guide shows the screws. Try gently squeezing the case together to remove any sideways pressure on the screws: MacBook Pro 17" Models A1151 A1212 A1229 and A1261 Upper Case Replacement

Hi Mayer,

Thanks for responding. So I opened my computer -- and the two screws that secures in the bracket to the hard drive is stripped. The star pattern now appears like a circle.

Is it possible to safely remove the hard drive without removing the bracket? I know this is contrary to the directions but I'm hoping to find new options. Or if its possible to remove stripped bolts however nothings working.

Any help is much appreciated.

Did research -- would a spudger work to remove a stripped screw?
