I think this might be the wrong place to ask for advice on something like this, you might want to try a forum about music and conversions.

NARAYANAN LAKSHMANAN, are we talking about a Reel-to-Reel or a tape deck? Do you have the reel/tape player? Does it have an audio out? Is it a stereo deck? I am not to familiar with the Mac software, but I am convinced that there is software that does record from the line in port of the sound card. Once I know what you use to play the music, I am convinced we can find the right setup for you. Good to see you back :-)

NARAYANAN LAKSHMANAN, you will need a cable with a 1/8" (3.5mm) Stereo Jack at one end and RCA Jacks on the other end, something like this

Then plug the 1/8" (3.5mm) Stereo Jack into your Mac's audio line in (you did not tell us which MBP you have, I believe the 13" does not have an audio in anymore and you will need to get a USB device to do that, whereas the 15" does have an Audio in jack)and the other end into your tape decks Line output jacks 31

All you would need then is some software to start recording. I believe Audacity and SoundRecorderX are still free. Hope this helps, good luck.
