Is there a hard drive in this, or a solid state?

Is it possible to change a 8gb iPod touch into a 32gb or 64gb? I am an electronics technician with 12 years experience, could I just change the flash memory chip? Or are there other supporting components, ie. capacitors and resistors in the circuit that would need to be added or changed?

laotto70, nope you can not. sorry. All the information is stored on a NAND flash memory BGA chip. Of course when you say "could I just change" and you mean a complete reball, with proper stencils, balls and a proper NAND IC then yes you can. :-) Take a look at the teardown on here for a better visual. Hope this helps, good luck.
