Power button does not work.

My sons MBP 15, sustained a coffe spill. Power button did not work. I cleaned logic board and case. was able to start computer only after connecting to the DC power adapter. Everything works - hard drive, display, DVD, all keys -except the power button. Power button will not shut down computer. I can restart and shut down through OS. If I shut down I have to open case, disconnect battery for a few seconds, reconnect DC adapter, and computer will restart. I looked at button inside case and it seems to work mechanically. Can anyone please help me? Should I try to disassemble and clean entire keyboard? Is this a logic board problem?

Sounds like your power button has shorted out. Unfortunately this requires an upper case replacement to fix.

After seeing conflicting information I've just opened up an Early 2011 15" MBP and a Late 2011 13" MBP and both of these can definitely have just the keyboard changed (tons of little screws-but no rivets, as I believe is the case for Retina MBPs Early 2012 and later). Mayer, I've seen you giving this advice out in other threads, I don't think it's true for 2011 models. You're suggesting a repair that is in many cases more than a $100 more expensive than is necessary, and isn't even that much easier.
