Same process if you don't have an inital glass panel?

I have an odd question about my MacBook glass panel. I sent it in to a company to have the cracked screen replaced. Within a couple weeks of having it back, the glass panel literally fell off the body. I want to fix it myself to save money and time but my question is this: Do I still need to disconnect the computer from the monitor to simply install a glass panel on the body?
