Water damage, back light gone, touch screen gone, no button working.

Hi,

I went fishing Easter weekend. Unfortunately, my iPhone 3GS drop into water........ I took it out of water immediately, but not quick enough :-(

After few day, I tried to turn on it, no luck, plug it to charger, I could see the charging showing on screen but no backlight, also, none of the button or touch screen working, except the home button but with very low sensitivity.

Pls help, which part should I replace to restore full function of my iPhone.

If you need more details to work out the problem, pls let me know. Thanks

So is your sleep/wake button dead as well? How about the volume controls?

Either way, you're looking at an expensive repair, as you'll need to replaced the entire front assembly. Even then, the motherboard may be damaged but have yet to show signs of it. It might be a better idea to get a new phone. :(

UPDATE: If you change the entire front assembly, it will fix the home button, the lcd, and the touch screen. However, that's pretty pricey-and the rest of your phone might be dying anyway. The part is here.

If you want my real opinion, I would say your better off buying a new phone in about 2-3 months. Apple's cooking up the next model, and seeing as how this repair will cost you at least 200, it might be worth it to wait a bit.

Thank you Josh.

I still can ring my phone, there is no backlight, but I can see iPhone desktop.

Yes, only home button working but with very low sensitivity. I have to push it hard.

If I change the entire front assembly, will it fix all the buttons, touch sreeen, backlight? How much will it be?

Thanks.
