How do I delete a number off my phone

I have a number in my phone which does not show up in contacts but in the messages mode will come up ans is stored as " other " in messages mode. I want to delete it permenantly but because it does not come up in my conatcts i cannot .

Options

I would enter this number in contacts, as a real contact. Once the iPhone accepts it. Then I would delete this real contact, taking the problem one with it.
