Cannot shut down, freezes sometimes

Hello peeps,

Got some questions for my rig.

(a) The sleep light does not pulsate when in sleep mode/screen saver/off mode

(b) when i shut down, the computer doesn't shut down entirely. The screen is off but the sleep light is solid. As a result, it drains the battery completely.

(c) Running Mountain Lion with all firmware and SMC update as of recent

(d) sometimes, the computer freezes during usage

(f) I am only using 2 GB at the moment as this is a testing machine before I get more RAM.

HELPPPPPPPPP!!! PLEAESSEEEEEE

What happens when you press and hold the power button forcefully shutting down the system? Also did you get your system wet or drop it at some point?

The system hasnt been for a swim or dropped at any point

OK - That means you have a stuck process running. That could be malware (Trojan/Virus) or some bad code from an app.

Do you have your original CD/DVD's or Snow Leopard install DVD? If you do try starting the system from this cold state. Then see if it shuts down correctly running off of the CD/DVD OS.

I would run Disk utility to check your HD, then I would install a fresh copy of the OS. Of course make a backup of your files before doing anything on your HD. Also get a good antivirus with the latest updates and check your drive out fully. If you don't find any problems at this point you'll need to so dissecting what application processes are running that are getting stuck.
