My Universal Adaptor Drive works, Mac does not let me access drive

I bought a Universal Drive Adaptor, for my Macbook Pro 15" Core 2 Duo Model A1260, nevertheless... no matter what I do, my Macbook Pro 2012 does not recognize it. Neither does my other laptop that is running Windows 8.

I know Windows 8 has issues with drivers right now, but I am not sure if that has anything to do with it.

I know I connected the cable correctly, because I hear the harddrive run, and it's recognized on my computer, I just can't acess the drive itself.

I get a message that says that the hardrive is not readable. I also know there isnt anything wrong with the harddrive, because the reason why my Macbook 2008 doesn't work is due to the logic board.

Please Help.

Can you tell us the brand, model & size of the HD in question. Do you have another SATA drive (OS-X) available to test the adapter?

The more information you give us, the more help we can be. Does this computer boot from an Optical or external HD?

My old MacBook Pro 15" Core Duo A1260 broke. I bought a new MacBook, 2012, but to recover my information, I bought the universal drive adapter to connect to my new MacBook.

The model of the hard drive which I connect to the Adaptor is a SeaGate Momentus 500GB. The SN number is 6WR18D4B.

And unfortunately I do not have another hard drive to test with the adaptor.

If you just want to migrage your old data to the new MB you might be able to do it over a network. Migration Assistant is looking that way for sharing data. If your "broken" machine boots and networks you don't really need the display (or you might be able to use an external monitor) If you get them both into Migration assistant I think they'll talk to each other and you can transfer files.

If you're trying to "restore" you don't really want to restore and old system to a new machine. Time Machine or Time Capsule backups would be another way to access old data. Remember you just need the data files, not the apps... you might be able to install the old apps on the new box.

Do you have access to another Mac computer to test it?

The only things I can think of is the SATA I/O speed (6Gb/s Vs 3Gb/s). Is the drive jumpered to the lower speed. The adapter may work better at the higher speed.

And lastly, The USB port your using on your newer system is USB 3.x Vs USB 2.x. If you can find an older Mac system see if it works with it.

Otherwise the HD may in fact be bad. What happened to your old system?
