Why is my Mac clicking when booting up?

When attempting to boot up my iMac makes a clicking noise three times and then it goes to a blank white screen with a picture of a file in the middle with a question mark in the center of the file. Did my hard drive crash?

Sure sounds like it. Boot up with your system disk and select disk utilities. See if your hard drive is seen and it it is run disk repair until it reports no trouble found. If your computer will then boot back up all important data immediately. If the drive is not seen or won't repair you will need to replace the drive. Ralph
