Why does my battery charge but does not hold the charge?

I have a Compaq Presario CQ50 that i bought in 2007 and I stopped using it in 2009 (it suffered a bad virus), I just found it in my basement and booted it up and it ran Vista, I noticed the wifi and battery did not work, I put Windows 8 Pro on it and the WIFI worked and it is updated. Is the battery dead? Should I get a new one?

Also, the Hard drive (101 GB) has 16.5 GB free, anyway I could clean it up? I think Vista is still taking up space, should I erase Vista?

It does sound like the battery has expired, especially if the battery has been sitting since 2009. You may be able to find a replacement battery on eBay or Amazon. As far as the space on the hard drive, you could probably remove Windows Vista from the machine, or defragment the drive as well.

As to your space problem, there is probably a C:\Windows.old folder that has your Vista stuff in it. If Windows 8 is working well for you, you can delete this folder. Instructions can be found here.

run the sotware coming the computer . restar the computer and hold the key f2 before to to the operative system and follow the step for test the battery.

However you can test the adapter battery and contacts for adapter, they can by damaged measure the output read your tech speci from adpater and measue the same voltage otherwise the adapter is FAULTY.
