The apple store told my wife that the internal power supply stopped working after a coffee spill

Cheryl Helsing, I believe that they may be talking about the DC-In board. The DC-in board is the part on your laptop where your wall charger connects to power your laptop. The guide for that is right here. Hope this helps, good luck.
