Is there a 5th generation iPod classic?

Im currently planning to buy an iPod, and the seller says its a 5th generation ipod classic 160gb...

.. is this a 5.5 gen or a 6th gen ?

The pictures tell that it has an anodised black metal body.

Did the very first ipod classic have a wolfson chip in it?

Was there an ipod classic before it was called 'classic' and released as the 6th gen with CL chipset?..

Thanks

anand sriram, iPod classic is actually a 6th gen iPod. There is a 5th gen and a 5.5th gen. those are called iPod Video. People have gotten into the habit of calling those wrongly Classic (even so they are classic). The iPod Video was updated in September of 2006. "This update included a brighter screen, longer video playback time, newly designed earphones and a search feature." making it the 5.5. First place goes to the 5.5th Gen iPod. the 5th and 5.5th gen use the Wolfson DAC and the iPod Classic (6th gen) the Cirrus Logic Audio Codec Chip. So, no the "very first ipod classic" did not have a Wolfson chip in it. The 5th gen also did not come as a 160GB but only went to 120GB, the 6th Gen (iPod Classic) has the aluminium front. For a lot more information, check on here and here. Hope this helps, good luck.
