How to turn off a permant running noisy cooling system?

MacBook, 2.2 GHz, 11_2007, 120 GB HD, 10.6.2

This is really annoying. Very shortly after booting the computer, the ventilator of the cooling system begins its endless noise. It doesn't stop even when there is no internet connection, no programs running, no external devices attached.

Is there any way to shut it off?

sure - the dust and other stuff is inside the heat sink

clean it and your MacBook will be quiet
