Why can't I turn on Wifi Smart Connection Utility with slidebar?

I have a Sony Vaio Laptop Vgn-NW240F, I have been turning the wifi on and off by moving a slide bar from left to right. Now the area where the slide bar is is grey and won't allow me to turn it on. Laptop uses Windows 7.

Found answer. switch on front of computer in left hand corner was turned off.
