Shortcut to HD Replacement
I have found that after removal of the sysnc cable, the display can be raised enough to allow removal of the hard drive without complete removal of the display.

Shortcuts break cables, connections, capacitors, etc.
Not trying to be mean but, stick to the steps, do them all, concentrate and don't rush. No one wants to break something in the attempt to fix something else!
Good repairs require great vigilance and thoroughness.
