What are the different parts to a screen assembly?

I recently took apart my iPhone to fix a button, all was going well until i ripped the touch screen flex cable! My first thought was to replace the whole screen, but i'm wondering if I only have to replace the LCD or touch screen. I can't figure out which one I need to replace or a how to video on it. Any help would be appreciated!

Answer this question I have this problem too

I'm not confident enough to try to take the screen apart, so I think the best would be to buy a new screen assembly. Thanks or all your guys help!

LCD is underneath the touch screen digitizer, while the touch screen with glass lens is the uppermost part of the iPhone. Hope this iPhone 4 tear down video can help you.

Right, it's easier to replace the LCD and digitizer assembly

In my noob experience I would suggest just pay for a new screen, the ones I get are around $55 NZD, but maybe someone else here may have a better suggestion.

+ you are absolutely right. "The LCD and glass are fused together, making repairing a cracked front panel more costly." so it makes sense to buy the assembly. Unless you have the proper equipment to separate the display and then to re-adhere a new digitizer to the LCD, buy a new assembly.
