How to Update HDD to SDD

Hello,

Are there any guides on how to to upgrade the HDD in the Acer Aspire V5-571P-6642 to an SSD? I hear a lot of clicking noise, sounds like the HDD is about to go.

Thank you.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Clicking noises from the HDD = death is soon.

Before we go into how to replace your HDD to a SDD, can you tell me your level of computer knowledge? On software and hardware both please =).

Secondly there is a few things you should know / do before upgrading to a SSD. Cloning your old HDD to the SSD will provide you with a usable SSD, however to maximize the SSD potential, you should install it with a fresh windows install as well as correct BIOS settings.

If you have any questions please leave them here, I check my posts every other day or so and if you feel comfortable with proceeding with the swap, i'll walk you through it.

Good Luck!

For computer knowledge, I would consider myself as mid-level. I can do installations and have built computers from parts and peripherals from scratch (i.e. motherboard, cpu, ps, case, ram, etc.). I've never created an ISO backup of my OS before either.

I did find a manual for the laptop in question, and it looks fairly straight forward, just gotta remove the screws to chasis, flip the keyboard over, remove the ODD, and voila, the hdd compartment is now visible. I would have thought I can get to it from bottom cover of the laptop similar to how to access the RAM compartment.

As for cloning vs clean install, i would prefer cloning so i dont have to purchase windows 8. Are the cons of cloning significant enough to hinder the ssd performance? To sum it up, I feel fairly comfortable performing the swap. Hopefully i dont lose any screws (tends to happen).
