The best why to give your MacBook a boost?

I have MacBook Pro with 2 GB 1067 MHz memory (everything is standard from shop). I am thinking about giving my computer a technical boost. Since I am very green in field of computers I wanted to ask you guys what you would suggest to do. Cost is an issue, but I am open to all ideas. My own plan was to buy additional ram, but what do you think?

According to Mac tracker you can use 8 GB of ram in your computer. This should be a significant performance boost. The only other thing would be a larger - faster hard drive up to 500 GB or a SSD drive. If not running Snow Leopard consider updating your OS. Ralph

I had the same issue and upgraded to 4 G total. But it requires getting 2 2G Chips. Good luck.

will that fix too many spinning beachballs. i have only had my MacBook Pro for less than 6 months. Should i upgrade the ram? i have the standard 2gb. My hard drive is about 50 percent full mostly i think due to my 42gb in my itunes library. I have reinstalled the OS twice and the applications once. The spinning beachballs have reduced in number but still happening. i gpot a mac so i don't have to worry about these things happening.

please help

De-fragmenting files and optimizing the volume helps a lot.
