Lightning! Blue lines on screen and spotty start up?

Hello all,

MY iMac emc 2133 was the victim of a power surge in my house...I don't know what is going on with it but it 'starts up' to a low fan and blue vertical lines on the screen. Is this a motherboard issue, or a power supply issue, or an issue way beyond fixing? Please help!

in response to rj713: i did the pram reset and then it started back up again, still with the same blue screen but instead began chiming/making a 'ding' noise every 5 or 10 seconds, repetitively

did the smc and nothing worked...still have to try and hook it up to an external but i dont know what kind of connector i need...all i have is a mini dvi to hdmi

This is a difficult question to answer because so many things could be wrong. Lets try a couple of resets and see if you obtain any improvement. First reset the PRAM and then the SMC and let us know what happened. Ralph

After trying those connect an external monitor and tell us what you see. Ralph

Contact your insurance agent, then take it to a MAC Tech.

Also good advice. Ralph

At this point I think your power supply and maybe your logic board are fried. I would recommend following mayers advice. Ralph

Get a quote for replacing all the parts and the labor to "restore it to its original working condition". The fees for doing that should be much higher than buying a brand new machine. Also remember the fees for transferring or reinstalling your data because it won't do it on its own. Enjoy your new machine.
