Battery charges, startup chime... blank screen, no fan.

This iBook G4 has had three DC-in cards, so when my son said it wouldn't start I figured it was time for yet another one. But with a new charge cord, the battery charges fine; all four green lights.

However, when I start it up, I get nothing on the screen. I see a keyboard light come on and I hear the happy-Mac chime, but there is no whirring sound and the screen stays blank. No white screen of death or flashing disk with a question mark, which I would expect from a dead hard drive. I popped it open and checked connections, but I didn't find anything loose.

I'm stumped. What should I try?

Is the screen black or white? Can you discern the desktop with a flashlight?

Appears to be black. I see no signs that the screen is booting up at all, plus there is the lack of whirring from the hard drive.

Hook it up to an external monitor and let us know your results. See if you can discern the desktop by shinning a flashlight on the screen. Move the screen back and forth and see if anything happens.
