iMac does not start stuck at spinning wheel

iMac Intel 24 2522 EMC 2134 and 2211

Hi everyone!

I have a big problem with my 24" early 2008 iMac.

He alsways stucks at the spinning wheel no matter what I do.

Even with the install-Disk it stucks at the grey screen with the apple and the spinning wheel .

The only thing that works is the hardware test which I start with holding D.

I think the problem is not caused by my Harddrive because I took it off.

Verboisemode shows the following:

bootcachecontrol unable to open /var/db/bootcache.playlist 2 no such file or directory

But which hardware causes this problem isn't it the hard drive? Iam very confused so please help my :)

Thanks a lot for any suggestion

I already tried to start a working mountain lion via usb hard drive

And I installed via macbook a mountain lion on the internal hard drive.

And I tried to install a fresh mountain lion / lion on the empty internal hard drive .

Nothing works. :(

When working to solve this problem all peripherals must be disconnected. From the verbose log it sounds like a damaged or corrupted HD.

AHT runs off a separate partition, and runs from a stripped down version of the OS - many extensions are not used.

Try disconnecting the HD and booting from an optical disk or your USB drive. If that works it again points to a failed internal HD. When these drives fail there is no "magic" fix... replacement is the only answer.

there are also light yellow vertical lines.... is it possible that there is a graphic card issue which causes the fault?

by

Yes - connect to an external monitor if the lines show up it's the VGU (VGC) if they don't the lines are coming from the internal display chain.. possibly the LCD.

I had this same 24" machine in yesterday. White screen, would not start up from the DVD. I changed the hard drive, put in a pre-formated and system installed drive. All now works fine. The old drive was unrepairable and overheated when using a universal adapter. I've seen this before, the bad drive seems to lock everything up on the machine. I still don't understand why it doesn't start up from a DVD till the drive is replaced.

Possibly because during POST there's power applied to it, it hangs, so the other part of the bus can't be accessed. One of, I think, the reasons that they advise to disconnect peripherals when troubleshooting boot issues.
