(Optic drive replacement) Cannot get optic drive to release!?

I am at step 17 trying to get the optic drive to release from the 2 "ears" that hold it in place. The right side has released and is loose, but the left ear will not let go, no matter how hard I squeeze it.

Answer this question I have this problem too

I just tried to take one out of mine with no luck squeezing it, except sore fingers. I would remove the two torx screws holding the bracket, I don't see another way.

Angle the drive towards

the released ear, lifting the right side it up.

I've done this a number of times. Remove the hard drive. Guide a flathead screwdriver under the space below the dvd drive coming from the gap where the sata drive was. If you look in the small gap on the side where the ear is against the dvd drive you can see the screwdriver tip. Push the tip against the bottom of the 'ear' and push it away from its locked position. Use your thumb on top of the ear as well so you push it slightly down to help the release of it. once you have it pushed free it will obviously lift. I sometimes have to do it to both left and right 'ear's. Good luck.
