iPod won't turn on, iTunes doesn't even recognize

My ipod died. Whenever it would crash, I used to be able to recover it and reinstall. But this time...there's no screen, no music and when i connect it to my computer, iTunes doesn't even recognize that it's connected. it's a brick, pretty much. ive tried connecting it, maybe to charge the battery, and after a while it started to feel warm.

anyone have any idea what could be wrong with it?

rtilog, you do want to change your battery first. Follow this guide there is no soldering involved. The toughest part is to be careful around the battery connector. It has the tendency of breaking of the logic board. Use a paperclip and bend it L-shape and hook it under the hold down clasp, then pull straight up. The battery is available right here as well as many other places. Hope this helps, good luck.

My suggestion is to change the battery. As I've stated in other threads, when a device won't power on, and heats up when connected to a charger, the battery is usually to blame. Search for your device on ifixit and look through the guides to find the battery replacement guide. The battery is probably pretty cheap, and you won't need to solder.

Generally these power up on the iphone wall charger regardless of a bad battery. I would start off by taking it apart and checking the logic board (the dock connector, as well as the power IC) The power IC is located on the front of the ipod top left corner.

No soldering is required for replacing the battery.
