Nokia 2730 classic headset won't work - software or hardware problem?

It's an older nokia, not ancient but sill perfectly useable.

I have a simple headset for this phone which I can no longer use because the phone has stopped recognising when it is plugged in.

Previously, when the jack was plugged in to the socket a headset icon would appear on the screen.

Now nothing happens. I've tried with two headsets, including one fresh out of the box, so I'm certain that the problem is with the phone and not the accessories.

The phone hasn't been damaged in any way, and the socket is clean. Everything else works fine.

I've had similar problems with my last nokia and resorted to buying a new one.

Is this a software problem or a hardware problem?

Can I fix it by somehow putting in a new socket?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

novice, try to measure the output on pin 4and 5 of the jack as well as pin 6 is the headphone connection. You may just have to replace the jack itself if it does not recognize the headphones when plugged in. It should close pin 6 to ground when plugged in. Of course this will require a new jack and some good tools and knowledge of soldering small components :-) hope this helps, good luck.
